Rwanda police handball club clinches 5th regional championship

Kigali, Rwanda – Rwanda national police handball club has reaffirmed its stature as a regional powerhouse after winning the East and Central Africa Handball Federation (ECAHF) championship, defeating Kenya’s NCPB Cereals Handball Club 34–28 in a compelling final played in Kampala, Uganda.

Held from December 28, 2025, to January 1, 2026, at the Old Kampala Arena, the tournament’s victory caps an impressive campaign and places Rwandan handball firmly back in the regional spotlight.

It brought together six of the strongest club sides from East and Central Africa, turning the competition into a high-intensity contest of tactical discipline, physical endurance, and experience.

Rwanda defeated Kenya’s NCPB Cereals Handball Club 34–28 in a compelling final played in Kampala, Uganda to be crowned champions.

Rwanda Police HC’s path to the title was defined by resilience and steady improvement. After suffering a group-stage setback against eventual finalists NCPB Cereals, the Rwandan side regrouped and responded with authority.

They overpowered Uganda Police HC 35–25 in the group phase before delivering a dominant 32–21 victory over Uganda People’s Defense Force (UPDF) HC in the semifinals, securing a place in the final.

Facing defending champions NCPB Cereals, Rwanda Police HC produced a composed and commanding performance. Their 34–28 win reflected both tactical maturity and collective confidence on the court.

Rwanda also overpowered Uganda Police HC 35–25 in the group phase.

A disciplined defensive structure, swift transitions in attack, and outstanding goalkeeping allowed them to control the tempo of the match and gradually pull away.

The title marks Rwanda Police HC’s fifth ECAHF championship in just eight appearances, underlining their consistency and long-term dominance in regional club handball.

Individual brilliance further highlighted their campaign, with Emmanuel Kubwimana named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and Samuel Mbesutunguwe finishing as the competition’s top scorer.
