Eid al-Adha to Be Observed as Public Holiday on June 6

Rwanda Declares June 6 a Public Holiday for Eid al-Adha Celebrations

The Ministry of Public Service and Labour has announced that Friday, June 6, 2025, will be observed as an official public holiday in Rwanda in celebration of Eid al-Adha.

This decision, the ministry states, is made “in accordance with the Presidential Order N° 062/01 of 19/10/2022 establishing official public holidays.”

In a formal statement, the ministry notified employees and employers across the country, stating that the holiday applies to “both public and private institutions,” allowing all workers to celebrate or rest on this important religious occasion.

Eid al-Adha, one of the most significant events in the Islamic calendar, commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God.

It is widely observed through prayers, the slaughtering of sacrificial animals, charitable acts, and family gatherings.

The Ministry emphasized that “Friday, June 6, 2025 will be a public holiday to celebrate EID AL-ADHA,” calling on institutions and the general public to take note and adjust their work schedules accordingly.

By providing a day of rest, the government allows Muslims across Rwanda to fully participate in the festivities while encouraging broader public appreciation of the country’s religious diversity.
