Kagame Meets Rwandan Students at Algeria’s Premier AI Institute

During his official visit to Algeria, President Paul Kagame paid a visit to the National School of Artificial Intelligence (ENSIA) in Algiers, where five Rwandan students are currently enrolled in advanced studies.

The visit highlighted Rwanda’s growing investment in science, technology, and innovation as part of its national development strategy.

ENSIA, one of North Africa’s premier institutions in AI education and research, offers an integrated Bachelor’s and Master’s program in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science. It has become a center of excellence for future tech professionals across the continent.

President Kagame’s meeting with the Rwandan students at the institution reaffirmed his government’s commitment to nurturing homegrown talent in emerging technologies.

“Algeria’s support for Rwandan students in cutting-edge fields like artificial intelligence and data science has been very successful,” President Kagame said during a joint press conference with Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.

“This reflects the forward-looking nature of our partnership and our shared interest in building the capacity of our people,” he added.

The visit came amid broader efforts to deepen Rwanda-Algeria relations. Earlier in the day, both Heads of State oversaw the signing of 12 bilateral agreements spanning higher education, telecommunications, agriculture, justice, and investment.

President Kagame also announced Rwanda’s plans to establish an embassy in Algiers, which would enhance diplomatic and economic collaboration.

“A diplomatic presence of Rwanda in Algeria, which we hope to have soon, will create more opportunities to strengthen our economic ties and see more engagement between our private sectors,” he explained.

President Kagame’s presence at ENSIA not only celebrated the achievements of the Rwandan students but also reflected his vision of positioning Rwanda as a knowledge-based, tech-driven economy ready to lead in Africa’s digital future.
