KIGALI – The battle lines are now clearly drawn at the 2026 CAVB Men’s African Volleyball Club Championship, with early contenders asserting dominance and emerging challengers refusing to fade.
As the group stage progresses in Kigali, momentum, consistency and resilience are beginning to separate teams chasing knockout qualification from those struggling to keep their hopes alive.
Across the opening days, the tournament has evolved from a balanced contest into a structured race led by proven giants and fueled by rising teams, none more notable than Rwanda’s representatives.
With strong performances stretching from Day Three into Day Four, the country’s clubs have positioned themselves firmly among the frontrunners, while pressure continues to mount on sides yet to find rhythm.

Group A: Giants dictate the pace
At the summit, Al Ahly SC and Port Autonome de Douala have set a commanding standard. Both sides extended their perfect runs through the opening rounds, combining clinical execution with tactical discipline.
Al Ahly’s straight-sets victories and Port Autonome de Douala’s dominant displays have not only secured crucial points but also reinforced their status as early favorites for the title.
Below them, the gap is widening. Teams like Sport-S VC and Rukinzo are beginning to feel the weight of consecutive defeats, leaving them with diminishing chances of recovery as the competition advances.

Group B: Rwanda takes control
Momentum in this group has shifted decisively in favor of Rwanda’s representatives, particularly APR VC and Police VC.
APR VC have emerged as one of the most composed sides in the tournament, maintaining an unbeaten run highlighted by dominant straight-sets victories, including a confident win over Nemo Stars of Uganda.
Police VC have matched that consistency with disciplined performances, combining resilience and control to secure back-to-back victories.
In contrast, teams like Wolaitta are beginning to fall behind, struggling to keep pace with the intensity and structure required at this level. With fewer matches remaining, their route to qualification is becoming increasingly narrow.

Group C: Kepler VC maintain their edge
Kepler VC have established themselves as one of the standout performers of the tournament. This consistency has placed them in a strong position to secure early qualification.
Their unbeaten run, built on back-to-back wins including a convincing victory over Sport-S VC and a composed 3–1 triumph against Cameroon Sportive, highlights both their attacking precision and defensive organization.
However, the group remains competitive. Teams like Equity Bank have responded with key wins, ensuring that the fight for top positions is far from settled, while AS INJS face mounting pressure following repeated setbacks.

Group D: Survival battle intensifies
This group presents the most unpredictable picture, where results have been mixed and qualification remains open.
REG VC’s journey reflects that uncertainty. After an early defeat, they responded with crucial wins over Rukinzo and General Service Unit, restoring belief and keeping their campaign alive.
Elsewhere, teams like Ghana Army and FUS Rabat have delivered important victories to stay in contention, while Black Rhinos and Tanzania Prisons are beginning to drift out of the race following inconsistent performances.
With margins tightening, every set and every point is proving decisive in shaping the final standings.

Knockout picture taking shape
As the championship moves deeper into its group stage, the narrative is becoming clearer. Established giants continue to lead, rising teams are closing in, and those unable to sustain performance are slipping away.
For Rwanda, the outlook is increasingly promising. With APR VC, Police VC and Kepler VC maintaining strong runs and REG VC regaining momentum, the country is on course to send a formidable presence into the knockout rounds.

Yet the task is far from complete.
The remaining fixtures will not only confirm qualification but also determine seeding, rhythm and confidence heading into the decisive phase. In a tournament where fine margins define success, sustaining momentum will be the ultimate test.
