Kigali is set to come alive once again as the Giants of Africa Festival returns from July 26 to August 2, 2025, with a dynamic blend of basketball, music, culture, and youth empowerment.
Masai Ujiri, founder of the Giants of Africa and president of the Toronto Raptors, has announced a star-studded expansion to the festival’s lineup, promising an unforgettable week of celebration and inspiration.
Among the latest additions is Nigerian music sensation Ayra Starr, who will headline the Closing Concert on August 2, joining a lineup that already includes Afrobeats heavyweights Kizz Daniel and Timaya.
Also confirmed is celebrated NBA star Kawhi Leonard, who will engage directly with Rwandan youth through mentorship and a special basketball clinic. The L.A. Clippers forward will also inaugurate a new court at St. Ignatius School, a project made possible through a partnership with Giants of Africa.
The festival kicks off with an electrifying Opening Show on July 27, featuring performances from renowned South African DJ Uncle Waffles, MTV VMA-winning choreographer Sherrie Silver, and Rwandan talents Kevin Kade, Ruti Joël, Boukuru, plus Chriss Easy.

On July 31, local artist Alyn Sano will grace the Threads of Africa Fashion Show, celebrating creativity across the continent.
Now in its second edition, the Giants of Africa Festival will bring together 320 youth athletes from 20 African countries, uniting them for a week of skill-building, community engagement, and cultural exchange.
Over 20,000 attendees are expected to take part in the event, solidifying Kigali’s growing reputation as a hub for youth-driven innovation and artistic expression. Beyond the courts and stages, the festival is a platform for global leaders and cultural icons.
Confirmed guests include journalist Robin Roberts, WNBA star Chiney Ogwumike, football legend Didier Drogba, actor Boris Kodjoe, and comedian Michael Blackson.

“Basketball can transcend borders and unite communities,” he said, highlighting the role of Giants of Africa in shaping future leaders across the continent.
Since its inception in 2003, Giants of Africa has focused on youth development through basketball, building courts, organizing camps, and connecting young people with inspirational mentors.
The inaugural Kigali edition in 2023 brought together over 250 youth athletes from 16 countries, generated more than $1.5 million in local economic activity, and left a lasting legacy of hope and purpose.
As the countdown begins, Giants of Africa is once again set to inspire a generation and spark a continental movement rooted in talent, passion, and purpose.
