Kigali, Rwanda- RwandAir has cautioned passengers about potential schedule changes at Kigali International Airport after heavy fog reduced visibility around the airfield. The national carrier shared the advisory on its official social media platforms, emphasizing that operational safety guides every decision taken during such conditions.
In its statement, the airline noted: “Due to low visibility caused by heavy fog at Kigali International Airport, some flights to and from Kigali may experience delays. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your understanding.”
In aviation, visibility is a critical safety factor. Dense fog can obscure runway markings and limit pilots’ sightlines during takeoff and landing, phases of flight that require maximum precision.
International aviation standards obligate airlines and airport authorities to adjust operations whenever weather conditions fall below approved safety thresholds. Delays, though inconvenient, are often necessary safeguards designed to protect passengers, crew, and aircraft.
Operating from its main hub in Kigali, RwandAir has grown steadily over the years, connecting Rwanda to destinations across Africa, the Middle East, Europe, and Asia. The airline has positioned itself as a key player in regional connectivity, building its brand on reliability and adherence to global aviation regulations.
Central to that reputation is a strong emphasis on risk assessment, weather monitoring, and operational discipline. Seasonal weather variations occasionally affect flight schedules in Kigali and other parts of the region.
Similar fog-related advisories were issued earlier this month when atmospheric conditions disrupted normal operations. Such occurrences underscore the dynamic nature of aviation, where flight schedules remain subject to environmental factors beyond an airline’s control.
