Vatican appoints Uganda’s Papal envoy Archbishop Bianco to new role in Europe

Archbishop Luigi Bianco

The Vatican has officially reassigned Archbishop Luigi Bianco, who has been serving as the Pope’s envoy to Uganda. In a formal announcement released by the Holy See, Bianco was appointed as the new apostolic nuncio to Slovenia and apostolic delegate to Kosovo.

A veteran diplomat of the Holy See, Archbishop Bianco carries the honorary title of titular Archbishop of Falerone, a designation traditionally granted to senior officials within the Church’s diplomatic ranks.

During his tenure in Uganda, Bianco was recognized for fostering strong relations between the Vatican and the Ugandan Catholic community. He frequently participated in major ecclesiastical and national events, reinforcing both spiritual and diplomatic ties.

His contributions extended beyond liturgical duties. Bianco engaged in peace-building initiatives and supported interfaith dialogue, earning widespread respect from religious leaders and state officials for his calm and diplomatic approach.

With Bianco’s departure, the position of apostolic nuncio to Uganda remains temporarily vacant. The Vatican has not yet named his successor, leaving the faithful and clergy in Uganda anticipating the announcement of a new representative.

Church leaders have expressed appreciation for Bianco’s service, remembering his pastoral outreach and visible presence during important religious ceremonies and state functions.

The apostolic nuncio acts as the Vatican’s ambassador, tasked with maintaining relations with the host nation while ensuring coordination among the local bishops and overseeing Church affairs.

As Archbishop Bianco moves on to his next diplomatic mission in Europe, the Catholic Church in Uganda remains hopeful for continued unity and leadership through his eventual successor.
