Rwanda accelerates infrastructure growth as State Minister tours key projects

Rwanda’s push to expand its infrastructure network took a notch higher as the State Minister for Infrastructure, Amb. Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye, began a working visit to the Southern and Western Provinces.

The tour is part of the government’s strategy to monitor progress on strategic projects while engaging local authorities on ways to fast-track development.

“Today, the State Minister for Infrastructure Amb. Jean de Dieu Uwihanganye began a working visit to the Southern and Western Provinces aimed at inspecting various projects and engaging with local authorities as part of efforts to accelerate infrastructure development,” the Ministry noted.

The visit commenced with the Kibugabuga–Shinga–Gasoro road project, a 67-kilometer stretch that has been fully completed. This road is expected to enhance connectivity within the Southern Province, reduce travel times, and facilitate trade and mobility for local communities.

Roads of this nature form part of Rwanda’s broader transport master plan, which prioritizes rural accessibility and regional integration as catalysts for economic growth.

Following the inspection, the Minister held a consultative meeting with the leadership of the Southern Province. Discussions highlighted the current state of infrastructure in the region and explored strategies to accelerate the delivery of ongoing and planned projects.

The focus remains on ensuring that infrastructure investments directly contribute to improved service delivery, economic transformation, and sustainable development. Rwanda has in recent years invested heavily in transport, energy, and urban development, aligning with its Vision 2050 agenda.

Projects such as the rehabilitation of national highways, the expansion of feeder roads, and new energy access programs have played a critical role in boosting connectivity, promoting trade, and uplifting rural communities.
