Kigali, October 9, 2025 — Rwanda’s speciality coffee sector achieved a monumental milestone on Wednesday as the top lot at the second annual Best of Rwanda 2025 online auction sold for an unprecedented $88.18 per kilogram, setting a new national export record.
The National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) announced the successful conclusion of the auction, confirming that the record price is a staggering 14 times the current average Rwandan coffee export price.
The standout lot, which originated from K-Organics Ltd in Huye District of the Southern Province, was purchased by the same company. The sale immediately establishes a new benchmark for the value of Rwanda’s premium coffee.
Evariste Karangwa, representing K-Organics Ltd, emphasised the direct impact this achievement will have on the farming community.
“I am truly honoured to have my coffee receive the highest bid,” Karangwa stated. “This recognition will allow me to invest in coffee farming activities, hence ensuring even higher quality coffee in the future and improve my community’s livelihood through coffee.”
NAEB Chief Executive Officer, Claude Bizimana, highlighted the broader significance of the auction for the entire sector. “Today’s achievement is a reminder of the potential we hold when we work together as a community,” said Bizimana.
“Each bid is not only a recognition of the best Rwandan coffee but also an investment in the future of our coffee sector.”
The Best of Rwanda Speciality Coffee Competition saw 20 exceptional coffees recognised from 316 submitted samples.
NAEB states that the revenues generated from the auction will enable coffee farmers to invest in modern farming techniques, improve productivity, and further enhance the quality of future harvests, ensuring Rwanda remains highly competitive in the global speciality coffee market.
