Rwanda’s economy grew by 9.2% in the first quarter of 2023, the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) body announced on Monday.

In a press conference organized by the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning together with the Statistics body (NISR), it was announced that the economic growth was hugely attributed to the service sector which took the lion’s share of the growth.

“The economy grew by 9.2% in Q1 of 2023 compared to the same period in 2022, buoyed by the service sector which contributed 44%,” said Yusuf Murangwa, Director General of the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR).

According to Murangwa, the service sector was followed by agriculture and industry sectors.

Agriculture contributed 27%, industry 22%, while 8% was attributed to adjustment for taxes and subsidies on products,” he said.

In Q1 2023, Agriculture grew by 1%, Industry 9%, Services 13%.
