Kigali, Rwanda – Rwanda and Brazil have deepened their growing bilateral partnership with an announcement that Brazil will soon host Rwandan students under a new education cooperation program between the two countries.
The initiative was revealed by Brazil’s Ambassador to Rwanda, H.E. Irene Vida Gala, during high-level talks held on Thursday with the Speaker of Rwanda’s Chamber of Deputies, Hon. Gertrude Kazarwa.
The discussions highlighted a shared commitment to expanding collaboration beyond diplomacy, with education identified as a strategic pillar for long-term cooperation.
By opening Brazilian institutions to Rwandan students, the program is expected to promote skills development, academic exchange, and people-to-people ties, while strengthening Rwanda’s ambition to build a knowledge-based economy.
Beyond education, the two leaders explored avenues to reinforce existing relations in tourism, trade, environmental protection, and parliamentary cooperation.
Tourism featured prominently in the talks, with both sides acknowledging the potential of the Visit Rwanda initiative to position Rwanda as a premier destination for Brazilian travelers and investors.

Brazil’s vast tourism market and Rwanda’s reputation for conservation and conference tourism were cited as complementary strengths.
Environmental protection was also underscored as a common priority, reflecting Rwanda’s strong track record in sustainability and Brazil’s global role in biodiversity conservation.
Cooperation in this area is expected to support shared goals on climate resilience and green development.
The meeting further emphasized the importance of strengthening ties between the Parliaments of Rwanda and Brazil as a means of enhancing mutual understanding and supporting policy alignment.
Parliamentary diplomacy, officials noted, plays a vital role in translating bilateral agreements into tangible outcomes for citizens.
Rwanda and Brazil have steadily expanded their engagement in recent years, driven by South-South cooperation and shared development aspirations.
